Tagore and her doctor,
in Balatonfüred

Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) was an Indian polymath who reshaped Bengali literature and music, as well as Indian art with Contextual Modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Author of Gitanjali and its “profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse”, he became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. Tagore had extensive Hungarian relations, between 1920 and 1925 about 30 works were published in Hungarian. In October 1926, he arrived in Hungary for a Central European tour, where he spent a longer time in Balatonfüred’s sanatorium because of his heartbreak, met Miklós Horthy and prominent persons of Hungarian literary life.
